So, sweater weather is just around the corner and you’ve been slappin’ on sun screen all summer. Believe me, I’ve been doing it, too. And whether you want to admit it or not, you probably weren’t as religious about it as you should have been. Too bad. That sun has been wreaking havoc on your face since last spring! The new nip in the air is a good reminder that we should head indoors and cuddle up to something nice and relaxing. A pumpkin peel is a great way to refresh your skin.
Before I had my first pumpkin peel, I wondered what was so special about it and how my face would react to it. I’ve got to tell you, I wasn’t to keen on the word “peel.” It totally reminded me of when I was a kid and let glue dry on my hand, only to peel it off in front of my little sister, sending her screaming into another room. But in reality, this “peel” resembles more of an invigorating facial than a gruesome horror flick. I found the pumpkin to be totally relaxing, both because it felt great on my skin, and because it smelled wonderful (think Thanksgiving at your grandmother’s house)! But aside from how it makes you feel, it’s what’s on the inside that really matters. It turns out that pumpkin packs a mighty punch!
Forget carrots, pumpkins have the highest concentration of Vitamin A (or beta carotene) in the vegetable kingdom. This potent antioxidant stimulates healthy skin growth and younger looking skin. Who doesn’t want that? Pumpkin also contains enzymes that break up dead cells, allowing the outer layer of cells to fall away without damaging the younger living cells underneath. Pumpkin also boasts a healthy dose of Vitamin C, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) that, without getting into all the medical gobbledy-gook, encourages younger cells to take over while sending your dead skin cells to the morgue. It’s normal for your skin to feel tighter, smoother and softer after the treatment. And guess what? There are NO restrictions after your Pumpkin Peel! You can go out and light up the town, or catch a dinner and a movie with your “little pumpkin” right after the session. Not too shabby.
Here are some benefits of the “Great Pumpkin Peel”:
- Increases skin cell turnover.
- Increases skin hydration.
- Reduces acne breakouts and decreases blackheads.
- Stimulates collagen and elastin production.
- Decreases fine lines and wrinkles.
- Lightens dark spots.
- Provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits (leading to younger looking skin).
- Skin feels significantly more smooth, soft and tight post-treatment.
Change your skin regimen with change in season. It’s time to get your pumpkin on!
